Milncroft Phases 1 & 2, Glasgow

Project Overview

The two phases of Milncroft were a joint initiative between Cube and Ruchazie Housing
Associations. The 61 units were predominately two storey, semi-detached houses with a single
block of three storey flats and several purpose built wheelchair units. Phase 1 also contained an
8 bed children’s unit which was constructed on behalf of GCC Social Work Department.
The first phase obtained funding from the Greener Homes Innovation Fund as a result of a joint
submission between Cruden and the Clients. The main aims of this fund were to encourage
modern methods of construction and create more fuel efficient housing, thus helping to cut
energy bills and tackle fuel poverty.

As part of the submission the Client stipulated that Silver Standard Aspects 1 – 8 would be
incorporated and through collaborative working with the client and our design consultants this
was achieved whilst still meeting the grant funding targets. All units incorporated higher levels
of insulation, low air permeability, robust thermal bridging details, PV cells and high efficiency, A
rated boilers with gas savers to utilise exhaust fumes from the boilers.
