Works Description: The Dukes Terrace project delivered 49 apartments and houses together with Liverpool city centre’s first new nursery and crèche in a development of four restored and new distinct buildings.
The Grade 2 listed derelict Dukes Terrace; Liverpool’s last remaining ‘back to back’ housing and adjoining former merchants’ houses were sensitively restored following consultation with a variety of historic building specialists, including English Heritage, who guided and approved the designs, specification and construction method.
Construction blended the use of materials and techniques from the 19th century with modern building practice, including using reclaimed brick chosen to match the existing and procurement of new imperial bricks, sized to course in with existing brickwork. Lime mortar, salvaged stone, timber repairs, decorative feature renders, Georgian Bar timber sash windows, period design cast iron rainwater goods and extensive lead workings were all incorporated in the finished works.
