Cruden's staff volunteering scheme Escalate in the Community has won its first award. Partner client Great Places Housing Group recognized the achievements of the community focused initiative with a bronze Make Their Day Award.

The Make Their Day Awards ceremony is Great Places' way of celebrating the valuable work their teams, staff and partners do to improve and 'make their customers day'. There were 10 prizes this year including; three bronze awards, two silver, three Job Well Done awards and the main gold award, all scored and judged by Great Places Management Team and Tenants.

Cruden won a bronze award for creating unique gardens for residents at Dermott Murphy House, a hospice for the terminally ill and sheltered housing scheme Patton Court.

This summer Cruden volunteers designed, built and donated bespoke movable planters to help hospice residents to enjoy the gardens. By being able to move the planters, residents who were unable to access the gardens could view the vibrant planters from their room or inside the building. Getting the planters in place was truly a team effort. Our Apprentice Joiners built the planters, then our green fingered colleagues at Cruden Property Services helpdesk then got them planted up with a bright mix of colours and installed them.

At Patton Court Cruden volunteers spent the day filling flower beds with new shrubs and removing trip hazards for residents. Both small scale contributions from our volunteering scheme, but they aimed to make someone's day and bring a little improvement for Great Places residents.

Cruden's Escalate in the Community scheme is a unique staff volunteering initiative aimed at promoting staff wellbeing through involvement in community projects. Projects that provide a lasting legacy for the communities our operations come into contact with.
