As a partner contractor to Salford City Council, Cruden Construction are delighted to support the 'Shared Apprenticeship Scheme' funded by Salford City Council and Construction Skills. Construction Director Ian Woolrich and Labour and Training Manager Barry Curran attended the official launch of the scheme at Salford City College on Friday 25th September 2009 hosted by Salford MP Hazel Blears.
The concept behind the 'Shared Apprentice Scheme' was to create sustainable training opportunities to trade Apprentices in the Salford area. A frequent problem facing apprenticeship training in construction environments is continuity of work. The initiative aims to combat this problem through partnering with a number of Salford City Councils construction contractors to engage Apprentices on a more flexible basis. This will allow contractors to place Apprentices dependant on their workload and the Apprentice will benefit from experiencing a range of site operations.
The Salford based company B4Box have been commissioned to administer the scheme thought sourcing initially ten local Salford residents who are currently unemployed who will be given the opportunity to get trained, qualified and find sustainable employment.
Cruden Construction will be placing two 'Shared Apprentices' with our workforce initially with our repairs and maintenance business Cruden Property Services then later to be involved in the Lower Kersall project for Salford City Council. Barry Curran Cruden's Labour and Training Manager comments "In the past contractors have experienced problems in the engagement of Apprentices through restrictions in continuity of work, however we believe this scheme is the answer"
