Wigan Council's Mayor and Mayoress Mark and Karen Aldred put on their hard hats and picked up their shovels this August 2009 to formally cut the turf on Cruden Construction's latest £6.7m million care village, Belong Atherton for client CLS Care Services Limited.

The new retirement village in Atherton is warmly welcomed by Councillor Aldred who has elected to devote his charity appeal to improve local services for Alzheimer suffers. The Mayor and Mayoress were accompanied in the dig by CLS Care Services; Tracy Paine Operations Director and Nigel Franklin, Property Manager together with Ian Woolrich and Peter Blake of Cruden Construction.

Cruden Construction have an enviable record of experience in the design and build of extra care and retirement villages in the North of England and are delighted to be main contractor for CLS Care Services on both this project for Belong Atherton and Belong Crewe which commenced construction in May 2009, two impressive and advanced extra care developments.

The advanced design of Belong Atherton will provide accommodation across a 98 unit care facility comprising 72 high dependency one bed ensuites and 26 extracare flats. At the heart of the village will be a bistro, gentle activities gym, internet café, hair and beauty salon and venue that can be used for cinema screening or dancing complete with a licensed bar.

Construction is due to commence in late August 2009 and due for completion in February 2010.
