Manchester City Council and partner Cruden Group are delighted with the progress and development of Joshua Heavens who was the first recruit to secure a permanent position through the Aspire initiative. Joshua's excellent progress was recognized through his nomination on three categories at the MWL and MCC Partnership Apprentice Awards 2009 held at Manchester Town Hall on 29th September 2009.

- Manchester City Council Apprentice of the Year
- Manchester Working Apprentice of the Year
- Apprentice Attendance Record Award

Joshua won the Apprentice Attendance Record Award with 100% attendance and was presented his award by one of Manchester's best known sportsman Ricky Hatton OBE. He also achieved a top three in the Manchester City Council Apprentice of the Year category.

The Manchester City Council's Aspire model is an Young Persons Initiative with the aim to provide employment for school leavers and long tern unemployed people from the Manchester area with contracting partners.

Joshua joined Cruden in July 2008 and following on from his success Cruden now have placed two further Aspire Trainees, Rebecca Maudsley Trainee Accountant and Carla Hughes in the commercial team.

As a contracting partner on both Framework One and The Small Works Framework Cruden Group. All Trainees are demonstrating their willingness to learn and develop from the opportunities being provided through MCC's Framework One 2009 and the Small Works Framework.

Mark Burns, Cruden Framework Director comments "Following an initial placement as a Trainee Site Manager Joshua expressed a desire to join the Estimating Department. Joshua has fully embraced our 'Escalate' training and development programme in his role as Trainee Estimator.
Joshua is an excellent role model for other young persons in Manchester and we are delighted with Joshua's commitment and achievements."

Cruden Group have a dedicated training and development programme 'Escalate' which all of our workforce participate in, from Apprentices through to Directors. Joshua is no exception so has his own Escalate training programme to support his development in is role and for future roles. As part of his training plan Joshua has started a journal recording the whole process of his Framework One 2009 project at Longsight. This will allow both Cruden and Joshua to track his development, identify training needs as his experience in his role grows.

For Cruden Group Joshua has made a wonderful start as one of team. He has even starred in the Cruden Group 2009 Escalate DVD, a short film that recognizes the training achievements of individuals in the group who have performed well through out the year. Joshua is one of the many successes that the Aspire model has created, in June 2009 the Aspire model was recognized nationally with the partnership winning an annual Government Opportunities (GO) magazine 'GO Excellence in Sustainability and Social Procurement Award for the Young People in to Construction Initiative'

As a proactive partner in many community based initiatives with the Manchester City Council and many other public sector clients, Cruden are delighted to be recognized as part of the winning team.
