The Cruden team, along with our guests, were delighted to once again be celebrating at the LABC Building Excellence Awards held at the Reebok on Friday 13th May 2011. In 2010 Cruden achieved our best result ever by receiving three awards, but at this year's event we surpassed that milestone result with an even better one, of five awards for four North West projects.

Local Authority Building Control (LABC) is all about excellence achieved through building standards, technical innovation and sustainable designs. Local, regional and national award ceremonies are held throughout the year with categories incorporating every class of building, from domestic extensions, social housing, apartments, schools, hospitals, commercial and retail to industrial properties.

Cruden were placed in categories of Best social/affordable housing scheme (2 entries), best large housing development, best community building and best sustainability design for the following projects;

Willow Bank Extra Care Village, Gorsey Lane, Wirral - A £7.5m 51 bedroom extra care apartment development with 19 bungalows and community facilities for Housing 21.

Sherbourne Road New Build and Refurbishments, Crewe, Cheshire - A £3.5m partnering contract with Wulvern Housing Trust to deliver nine modern new build homes and 51 refurbishments at Sherbourne Road.

Belong Crewe Extra and Dementia Care Village, Crewe, Cheshire - A £5.9m extra care village comprising 65 high dependency units and 12 extra care apartments with communal facilities including, gym, café, restaurant and bar.

Bungalows on Jurby Avenue, Higher Blakeley, Manchester - The first social housing built by Manchester City Council in 30 years, the 32 bungalows with a value of £3.8m was delivered through the Framework One 2009 partnership.

Willow Bank (Gorsey Lane) was announced as category winner in the best social/affordable housing scheme in a shortlist that contained 14 entries. This win will now go forward to the National Awards which are being held later this year in London.

These awards are particularly special in the construction industry as they are presented by the LABC upon recommendations from their directly employed officers and as such it is particularly pleasing to receive such awards via a nomination rather than by direct entry.

All of these schemes are within the top 10% by performance in the country which clearly demonstrates Cruden's commitment to continual improvement and innovation to deliver construction and customer care to the highest quality standards.
