On Friday 2nd September 2011 the Cruden volunteers, with the support of our local supply chain, transformed St Luke's Church Community Hall to bring a new lease of life in to the tired but much used and loved community hub.

Cruden have worked extensively in the Salford area for many years on a range of projects for Salford City Council. From housing refurbishment and maintenance to new build homes and schools, Cruden has had the opportunity to engage and invest in the local community at many levels.

Working closely with local charity Salford and Langworthy Trust (SALT) the Cruden Community Engagement Team have identified a number of projects that could potentially have a lasting and positive impact for the local community. St Luke's church was one such project that's Cruden were delighted to get involved in.

St Luke's Church and Community Hall is a focal point in the Salford community and their dedicated team has a genuine passion and commitment to providing community services to all ages from nursery facilities, after school clubs, drama, dance, fundraising events to classes and meetings for the elderly. The halls facilities were in desperate need of refurbishment and a helping hand to upgrade the main hall and function spaces.

Fifteen Cruden volunteers spent their time, painting, planting, clearing and upgrading around the hall to make it brighter and more inviting for the local community to enjoy. Works will continue with a kitchen refurbishment programme which will allow St Luke's to extend their range of services by being able to prepare and serve hot food which at present they cannot.

Charles Gorton, Vicar at St Luke's commented "Thank you so much to Cruden and their supply chain volunteers, we really couldn't have done it on our own. We are all delighted with the improvements that have been made. St Luke's Community Hall is one of the largest function spaces available in the area and with its new improvements we will be able extend it use to more members of the local community"

Cruden's dedicated 'Escalate in the Community' volunteering initiative will continue to work with the team at St Luke's and SALT so check out our latest news for updates.
